IT SEEMED ONLY FITTING TO SHOW ONE OF MY FAVORITE KELSEY PIECES FIRST. AS SHOWN, ITS FROM 1995 – ENTITLED *DESERT RAIN* – AND IS ONE OF 40 MADE.
IT APPEARS TO BE A TWO LAYER CAMEO STANDING 5 3/4 INCHES HIGH. THE BASE COLOR IS SATINIZED YELLOW BUT WITH STRIATIONS OF CLEAR AND SOME DARKER COLORS THAT SHOW THROUGH TO THE EXTERIOR. YOU CAN SEE THIS IN THE TOP VIEW.
THE OUTER LAYER IS SHINY FINISH GREEN AND IS CUT THROUGH TO THE YELLOW IN A VERY INTRICATE PATTERN OF DELICATE FLOWERS AND FOLIAGE.
OVERALL A VERY STRIKING PIECE AND ONE THAT I TREASURE. THANKS KELSEY FOR MAKING IT. MAYBE YOU CAN GIVE US MORE INFORMATION ON HOW THIS PATTERN CAME TO BE.

Boy! Does that piece of Stu’s bring back memories. It’s one of the three or four pieces I actually created with Alfred Knobler, owner and CEO of Pilgrim Glass. He always liked it when we embedded frit (chunks of glass that are laid out on a marver, a metal table, then the hot gob of glass on the blowpipe is rolled on them, picked up, heated in a gloryhole, a tank of fire burning at about 3000 degrees, covered in crystal from the tank and then, in this case, covered in green. Once blown into a shape and cooled the images are brought forth from the green exposing the patterns of the frit embedded beneath…It’s like magic! Thanks for your pictures Stu. Kelsey
